RSC is a full-service architectural firm. We design buildings from the ground up, both inside and out. Our diverse team of architects and designers handle projects from small, single-office retrofits to massive, ground-up institutional buildings. Our high-quality design work is carefully considered, and our clients are active partners during the entire process.
Schematic Design
During the schematic design phase, we define the general scope of the project; select a planning option; determine the massing, layout, use, and general building structural and mechanical systems; and decide on the configuration of the site, while working with our clients and our engineering partners to make important decisions regarding the direction of the project. We also identify any cost or scheduling impacts on these design choices as we move throughout this early phase.
Design Development
Once we have an approved schematic design, we work with both our client and our consulting partners to develop the project in further detail. We prepare drawings and other documents that depict and describe the size and the character of the project regarding its architectural, structural, mechanical, and electrical systems, as well as any other materials or elements that may be appropriate. We also review any cost or scheduling impacts, and we recommend detailed estimates during this phase.
Construction Documents
Based upon the approved design development documents, we then prepare construction documents that consist of the drawings and the specifications that set forth in detail the requirements of the project’s construction, which we have defined together. These construction documents are the drawings and the specifications that the contractor will build from, which fully define the work and give the owner and the contractor clear expectations regarding the definition, quality, and intent of the completed project. They are also used in order to obtain permits from the agency having jurisdiction.
Interior Design
We maintain an in-house interior design team that offers services for all of our projects. Our designers are involved in space planning and test fits, and they often follow their projects throughout the design process. We also maintain a robust interiors library, and we remain up-to-date with our material offerings within the industry. This work is embedded within our overall design services and benefits our clients at every stage.
Sustainable Design
Sustainable design is inherent in all that we do. From programming to construction administration, we consider the environmental impacts of our designs, and we offer our clients opportunities to reduce their footprint, improve their energy efficiency, and remain more sustainable in their projects. Our team includes LEED-accredited professionals, and we are versed in a wide range of sustainability programs, including LEED, WELL, Energy Star, and others.
